DOXA

Vancouver’s international documentary festival featuring new work selected by a jury, as well as thematic programming presented by independent curators. They are currently seeking submissions of short to feature length documentaries for their 20th anniversary festival, happening May 6 thru May 16, 2021.  Don’t miss the deadline for submission!

The CMPA STAR Producer Program

This is a comprehensive professional development platform designed to help members advance their careers and grow their businesses. STAR is an acronym for Skills, Training, Access, and Resources, which the program will offer through an extensive range of development opportunities for producers at all stages of their careers.

DOC Breakthrough Program 

Six emerging and high-potential creators (writers, producers or directors) will be selected for this rigorous and intimate market-preparation course where they’ll develop a successful festival strategy and hone their project pitches and materials to prepare for festivals and markets like the Deal Maker program at Hot Docs.

Prime Time Online 2021

For 25 years the CMPA’s Prime Time event in Ottawa has been the pre-eminent meeting place for leaders and trendsetters focused on media production, broadcasting, television, and feature film in Canada. This year, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, they’re going virtual.

The WarnerMedia x Canadian Academy Global Access Writers Program

The WarnerMedia x Canadian Academy Global Access Writers Program is a brand new talent activation initiative focusing on experienced Canadian writers from underrepresented communities, aimed at storytellers who are experts at their crafts but have yet to reach their full potential. 

Those selected to participate will work closely with WarnerMedia executives, creators, and established industry professionals to hone their skills. 

Submissions are open NOW through Friday, December 18, 2020.

Rogers + Creative BC Documentary and Factual Development Fund to support original documentary singles, series and factual series

Creative BC + CBC Digital Production Fund

CBC and Creative BC have delivered a micro-budget production fund to support the creation of video content from BC producers and creators to be showcased in connection with CBC’s digital platforms.

Bell Fund – Short Form Digital Series Non-Fiction

The purpose of the Program is to fund original digital video for online distribution, specifically the production of scripted non-fiction (i.e. documentary and lifestyle/factual programming). Only series will be supported, with a maximum length of 15 minutes per episode and a minimum of 6 episodes. More info here.

Bell Fund – Slate Development

The purpose of the Slate Development program is to help independent production companies diversify their development slate both in terms of numbers of projects and variety of platforms and media by offering financial support for the planning and development of original intellectual property (“IP”). ITVS Short-Form Open Call

ITVS is launching its latest round of nonfiction funding for shorts and series, and projects can be in development or production. More info here.

Film Incentive BC Tax Credit

A refundable labour based incentive for Canadian productions.

FIBC is a refundable corporate income tax credit. When filing tax returns, your corporation may claim a specified percentage of the labour costs incurred while making a production. The credits are applied to reduce tax payable, and any remaining balance is paid to the corporation.
