Melting Stars – Vancouver Premiere: April 14
Kate Green’s award winning Bravofactual short doc, ‘Melting Stars’ is having its Vancouver Premier at TELUS Science World Omnimax theatre on April 14th @ 1pm.
The film is playing as part of the Elements Film Festival. The Omnimax films are free with admission to Science World so it’s a great day out with the family! Click here to check out the program

Intro to Audio Recording & Processing for Women: Apr 30
This hands-on introduction is designed for women (cis, trans, and genderqueer) who are looking to learn the fundamentals of audio recording. It combines theory and practice of audio recording. Learn how to connect your equipment and understand signal flow. Learn how a microphone works, and the various ways to use one for different results. Learn how to connect your equipment and understand signal flow. Learn the techniques and settings for producing audio recordings that sound great.
Intro to Camera & Lighting for Women
This hands-on intro workshop is designed for women (cis, trans, and genderqueer) who are looking to learn the fundamentals of cinematography. For self-identified women and non-binary people: learn to shoot stunning videos with the help of cinematographer Paige Smith. No experience necessary. All equipment provided.

Camera Lights Sound
Basic technical aspects of camera operation, sound recording, and lighting principles are taught through demonstration and hands-on practical exercises using the Canon Rebel T4i high definition camera and its interchangeable lenses. Learn how to use manual settings to help you get the best shot. Understand exposure, gain, shutter speed, and white balance. Using the Zoom H4n, audio recording procedure and considerations will be introduced. The principals of three-point lighting will also be covered and practiced.
This workshop uses equipment you can rent from VIVO, so it’s a great primer to get you started on your videos! It also benefits participants interested in VIVO’s more intermediary video-making workshops.

WOMEN IN FILM AND TV is looking for nominations for the 2019 Spotlight Awards™. Since 1999, the Spotlight Awards™ have brought together the BC Film community to celebrate the outstanding achievements of BC women in screen-based media. If you know someone whose work and/ or achievement has contributed to advancing opportunities for women in screen-based media then nominate them today! Nominations will be until April 5, 2019, for 11 different award categories.

Walter Murch: On the Art of Editing Tuesday April 16
Walter Murch is one of a handful of editors to have achieved widespread renown beyond the industry. For more than 40 years he has worked at the very top of his profession on films that include Apocalypse Now and The Conversation, The Talented Mr Ripley, Cold Mountain and The English Patient, as well as his own directorial debut, the cult classic Return to Oz. In his 2004 book The Conversations, Murch and novelist Michael Ondaatje collaborated on one of the key texts on the art of film editing. On Apocalypse Now, Murch coined the term sound designer and helped to elevate the impact of film sound to a new level. For his latest film, Coup 53, he is the editor, writer, and plays himself.
