2 days, 208 attendees, speakers from Los Angeles, Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto and the UK, there was little doubt that Factual West has become a perennial event to attend for our industry. From master classes in editing and line producing, conversations and case studies with Netflix series creators, 11 sessions ranging from screen writing to Artificial Intelligence, the amount of amazing content on offer over 48 hours was incredible. And with a funding announcement over lunch from Creative BC and Rogers Group of Funds of their new $800,000 Documentary and Factual Development Fund, it was hard not to be enthusiastic for the future of factual entertainment in BC.
“Canada’s talent and content has captured global audiences and its time we take credit for it.” Valerie Creighton, President & CEO of Canada Media Fund, said in her keynote address.

Some quotes from attendees
“This was my first Factual West and I loved it. Well organized,
friendly, accessible and great price. The value was worth every
nickel!”
“FactualWEST is one of the best short conferences that I have attended in years. Well organized and great access to decision makers and other film makers. Can’t wait for next year!”
“FactualWEST is such an incredible event which offers an
excellent opportunity to network with and learn from documentary filmmakers from Vancouver and abroad. I thoroughly enjoyed having the chance to speak to the attendees as well as to attend the many workshops and discussions offered. Not only was it a great learning experience, but I met some really wonderful people who I hope to stay in touch with for many years to come.”
